Enhancements to the 2014 Appeal Process
Tuesday, 08 April 2014

The Denton Central Appraisal District has launched a new online protest filing system for eligible property owners.

If you have a residential property with an active homestead exemption, and you don’t have a tax agent representing you for property tax matters, you may be eligible to file a protest online, upload evidence, view District evidence, and schedule or reschedule a formal protest hearing. You may also have the opportunity to accept or decline a value settlement offer from the District.

Using this new system, property owners no longer have to visit the Appraisal District to appeal their property value. Excluding the Appraisal Review Board hearing, the entire process can be completed from the comfort of your own home.

If your property is eligible for online protest filing, you will find additional information included with your 2014 Notice of Appraised Value. These notices are scheduled to be mailed the first week in May.

If your property is not eligible for online protest filing or you would like to speak to an appraiser informally, you can also get in line before you arrive through our new Q-Less system, which we’ll debut shortly. You’ll be able to visit our website to get in line, or call or text a number we’ll provide. If you use your cell phone, we’ll send you a text or call when it’s getting close for your time to meet with an appraiser.

More information is forthcoming about these enhancements, but if you have any questions, please let us know through our Helpdesk.

Residential Homestead, Over-65 or Disabled Person Homestead Exemption Verification Survey
Monday, 10 February 2014
To maintain accurate records as per the requirements of the Texas Property Tax Code, Denton Central Appraisal District is conducting a survey of certain properties currently receiving a residential property tax exemption. This survey is to ensure that all citizens that are entitled to a Residential Homestead, Over-65 or Disabled Person Homestead Exemption receive the available exemption. Further, we are obligated to remove exemptions that are no longer valid. Individuals who believe they qualify for an exemption, but have not applied, should contact our office. Schools, cities, and the county can maintain the lowest possible tax rate only if exemptions are valid.

The maintenance of accurate records is only possible with your assistance. Should you receive an inquiry in the mail concerning the qualification of your exemptions, it is important for you to complete the form and return it to the Denton Central Appraisal District as soon as possible. Failure to respond could result in the loss of your exemptions.
